In the second game of Saturday’s College Football Playoff tripleheader, the Texas Longhorns (11-2) will host the Clemson Tigers (10-3) at 4 p.m. ET at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium.

The winner will advance to face Arizona State in the CFP quarterfinals and have bragging rights as the best orange team in college football, assuming Ohio State eliminates Tennessee.

This line hasn’t dropped far enough since opening at 53.5. I’d play the Under at 51.5 or better, as 51 is a key number for total bettors.

I have a difficult time seeing how Clemson scores on Texas. The Longhorns rank third in defensive EPA. They are second against the pass and seventh against the run, making life difficult for any opponent.

Clemson hasn’t faced a challenge like this all year. The Tigers mustered just 14 points against South Carolina’s defense in the regular-season finale.

Texas is 4-8-1 to the Under this year, though this would be the team’s second-highest total since mid-October. Clemson is 4-8 to the Under, which includes finishing well below the closing total of 49 against South Carolina.

I anticipate a defensive battle when these teams face off.
